Filler dissolving starts at $150 per session at Glow Theory in Carlsbad and ranges up to $300 depending on how much product needs breaking down and how many areas are involved. Larger volumes or long-standing filler sometimes need a second session. It is currently $50 off.

Yes, and a large proportion of the dissolving we do is filler placed elsewhere. There is no awkwardness in it and no lecture — you do not need to explain where you had it done or defend the decision. What we do need to know is which product was used and roughly when, if you have that information, because it affects how we approach it. If you do not, we work it out from the assessment.

It is hyaluronidase, an enzyme your body already produces that breaks down hyaluronic acid. Injected into an area containing hyaluronic acid filler, it breaks the gel down into fragments your body clears within days. It is the reason hyaluronic acid fillers are considered reversible in a way most other injectables are not.

Quickly. Some change is often visible within hours, and most of the effect is complete within 24 to 48 hours. We assess at two weeks, once any swelling from the dissolving itself has settled, to decide whether a second session is needed.

No, and this matters enormously. Hyaluronidase only breaks down hyaluronic acid — Juvéderm, Restylane, Revanesse and similar. It does nothing to Sculptra, which is poly-L-lactic acid, or to Radiesse, which is calcium hydroxylapatite. Neither of those has a reversal agent. If you are not sure what you had, bring any paperwork you have and we will work it out.

It is comparable to having filler placed — a series of small injections with topical numbing beforehand. Some patients find it slightly more uncomfortable because the areas being treated are often already tender, but it is brief and manageable.

Temporarily, yes — hyaluronidase cannot distinguish filler from the hyaluronic acid naturally present in your tissue. That is why an area can look slightly deflated for a week or two afterwards, beyond the filler that was removed. Your own hyaluronic acid regenerates within a couple of weeks and the area returns to its natural state.

Yes, and it is often the better plan. Partial dissolving reduces volume or corrects migration while leaving the rest of the result intact. It takes more judgement than dissolving everything, and we would generally rather do it in stages than take too much in one sitting.

About two weeks. That allows the hyaluronidase to fully clear and your own hyaluronic acid to regenerate, so we are placing new filler into normal tissue rather than into an area still being broken down. Refilling too soon risks the new product being partly dissolved as well.

Generally yes. The main risk is an allergic reaction to hyaluronidase, which is uncommon but real — hives, swelling or, very rarely, a more significant reaction. We ask about allergies including bee stings, and a patch test can be performed where there is any concern. Temporary swelling, bruising and tenderness at the site are normal and settle within days.

Old filler can still be dissolved. Hyaluronic acid can persist far longer than the marketing suggests — sometimes years beyond its stated duration, particularly in areas that move little. Long-standing product is often more stubborn and may need more than one session, which we would discuss upfront rather than discover halfway through.

Yes, and this is the most important use of it. If filler enters or compresses a blood vessel, blood flow to the skin is blocked and tissue can be lost — occasionally with more serious consequences near the eyes. Hyaluronidase injected urgently reverses it. This is why we keep it on site and why we suggest asking any injector whether they do. If you have had filler recently and the skin looks pale, blotchy or dusky, or pain is worsening rather than easing, contact us straight away.

In almost all cases, yes. Once the filler and the temporarily affected natural hyaluronic acid have both cleared, the tissue returns to its baseline. Lips that had been repeatedly overfilled over years occasionally look a little looser initially and settle over the following months.

Yes, and often it can be done in the same visit. We need to establish what product was used, where it was placed and what specifically bothers you before deciding how much to dissolve. Dissolving everything when the actual issue is a small area of migration is a poor outcome dressed up as a solution.

No. Most people we dissolve for are unhappy about something and quite a few are embarrassed, which they should not be — filler results depend on product, placement and technique, and none of those were your decision. We fix it and we move on.
