No, and this is the most important thing to understand before booking. Filler adds volume — it is placed in specific spots to build structure or restore fullness. SKINVIVE adds no volume at all. It is hyaluronic acid delivered as tiny microdroplets into the dermis to improve how the skin itself behaves: smoother, more hydrated, better light reflection. If you want fuller cheeks, this is not the treatment. If you want better skin on the cheeks you already have, it is.

SKINVIVE by JUVÉDERM is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid microdroplet injectable for improving cheek skin smoothness. Rather than being placed in a few deep locations like a filler, it is delivered as many small droplets across the surface layer of the skin, where the hyaluronic acid binds water and improves texture from within.

Up to six months for most patients. Because it works by hydrating the skin rather than adding structure, it fades gradually as the hyaluronic acid is metabolised. Most people repeat it twice a year.

Not immediately. Any change on the day is from the injections themselves. Real improvement in smoothness and glow builds over two to four weeks as the hyaluronic acid integrates and draws in water. This is why we say book four weeks before an event, not four days.

It involves many small injections rather than a few, so it takes longer than filler even though each one is minor. Topical numbing is applied beforehand and the product contains lidocaine. Most patients describe it as a series of small pinches — more tedious than painful.

Minimal but visible for a day or two. Expect small raised bumps at each injection point that settle within 24 to 48 hours, and possible pinpoint bruising. Nothing restricts your activity, but you would not schedule it the day before photographs.

Two is the standard treatment and covers both cheeks — that is how it is priced here, at $715 for the pair. Some patients with larger treatment areas benefit from more, which we would discuss at consultation rather than at the appointment.

It is FDA-approved for the cheeks, and that is where the clinical evidence is. It is used off-label on the neck, décolleté and hands by some providers. We treat the approved indication, and if your concern is elsewhere we will discuss what is genuinely appropriate rather than extending a licence that does not exist.

They work at different depths and on different timescales. A HydraFacial or DiamondGlow works on the surface, gives an immediate result and lasts a few weeks. SKINVIVE works inside the dermis, takes a month to appear and lasts up to six. Many patients do both — facials for maintenance, SKINVIVE twice a year underneath. If you want glow this week, book the facial.

It is worth it if your complaint is skin quality — dullness, roughness, dehydration — and you want that improved for six months without changing your face. It is poor value if you actually want volume, if you expect an immediate result, or if you would not maintain it. We would rather tell you which of those applies at consultation.

Commonly, and they address three different things: filler for volume, neuromodulator for movement, SKINVIVE for skin quality. Many patients have all three. We usually place filler first and SKINVIVE afterwards, and we allow two weeks between SKINVIVE and any energy-based treatment.

It is avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area, with a known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine, and where there is a history of severe allergic reactions. As with any injectable, we wait two weeks after dental work or vaccination.

Yes. It is hyaluronic acid, so hyaluronidase breaks it down like any HA product. In practice this is almost never needed, because SKINVIVE adds no volume and therefore cannot create the shape problems that lead people to dissolve filler.

If medically safe, stop fish oil, vitamin E and ibuprofen for about five days to reduce pinpoint bruising, and skip alcohol for 24 hours. Never stop prescribed blood thinners without speaking to your doctor. Book four weeks before any event so the result has developed.
